Lucky Charmer (2019)

Oculus Rift VR animation and installation with objects that can be arranged in various ways.

Paper mâché bowl with enamel and spray paint, beeswax candle, USB stick; Lucky Charms cereal and box, with or without milk; Framed pencil drawing on paper with vintage rainbow-dyed 24k gold silk thread; Lightbox vitrine containing a milk gallon, a vintage book (“The Oak King, the Holly King and the Unicorn”), a defunct iPhone, 24k gold silk thread, a vintage computer memory.

When the viewer puts on the VR headset there is a unicorn sitting across the table from them. The unicorn is wearing earphones coming from a sporty iPhone armband and slurping a bowl of Lucky Charms using a medieval spear for a spoon. Audio plays in which a woman’s voice reads a sort of guided meditation describing an angel which appears in the form of liquid tar bubbling up through the grass, with trash stuck to her. The angel reads a short passage from Luce Irigaray’s Speculum of the Other Woman.
